Sustainability at WYSTC

At WYSE Travel Confederation, we are committed to making a positive impact on the environment and the communities we engage with. During all our events, including WYSTC, we aim to minimise our environmental impact, engage and uplift the local community, and ensure that the economic benefits of the conference are widely distributed. Sustainability is at the core of this, and we are taking proactive steps to minimise our carbon footprint whilst maximising our social responsibility. Here are some of the key initiatives we implement.

Supporting local suppliers

We believe in supporting the local economy and reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation. That’s why we’ve partnered with local suppliers for various services, including catering and booth suppliers. By sourcing locally, we not only ensure the highest quality products and services but also contribute to the economy of communities in Lisbon.

Sustainable transportation

To minimise our carbon footprint, we’re opting for ground transportation to bring our materials to Lisbon instead of air transport. This decision significantly reduces emissions and demonstrates our commitment to sustainable logistics practices.

Plastic-free badges

In line with our commitment to reducing single-use plastics, we have eliminated plastic slips for our badges. Instead, we’re using eco-friendly alternatives, contributing to the reduction of plastic waste and promoting environmentally conscious practices among our attendees.

Eco-friendly event transfers

We recognise the impact of transportation on the environment, especially during events. To mitigate this, we’re arranging bus transfers for delegates to social events offsite. This initiative minimises the use of multiple taxis, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while promoting a more sustainable approach to event transportation.

Waste reduction and recycling

Throughout the conference, we’re implementing waste reduction strategies and promoting recycling initiatives. Recycling stations will be located across the venue, and we encourage all attendees to participate actively in our efforts to minimise waste and conserve resources, by reducing consumption of single-use plastics, and encouraging digital rather than printed marketing materials. We also now ask in the registration form for confirmation of attendance to social events, to ensure that we cater to the correct number of delegates and limit food waste.

Local volunteer project

As part of our commitment to social responsibility, our volunteer project is coming back for WYSTC 2024. This offers delegates the opportunity to give back to the local community and leave a positive impact on Lisbon.

As participants of WYSTC 2024, you play a crucial role in our sustainability efforts. We invite you to join us in embracing eco-friendly practices during the conference, whether by offsetting travel emissions, opting for digital over printed materials, or engaging with our sustainability initiatives, your actions make a difference. Feedback on our sustainability efforts is welcomed, and we are dedicated to making each year more sustainable than the last.
