Megan Allen-Armstead

Megan Allen-Armistead

Operation Manager
Base Backpackers

With 20 years of experience working in the backpacking industry in Australasia Meg has been witness to the growth, maturity and expansion of this tourism sector.

Starting as a bus driver and working her way up through every facet the industry had to offer, she was cutting her teeth at a time when the industry in Australia was doing the same. The wealth of knowledge gained from a career of developing, opening and working in hostels, bars, sales & marketing departments, backpacker employment centres and backpacker travel agencies is invaluable.

Currently she is part of the management team at Nomads & Base Backpackers; Nomads bought out Base in May 2015 and the group is currently in the exciting process of developing and distinguishing the two strong brands in the marketplace. The joint venture is now the largest independent network in Australasia.

Through years of representing Australian backpacking product overseas at trade missions, agent’s visits and at international and domestic conferences and trade shows Meg has gained a solid understanding of how the Australian backpacking industry is recognised, viewed and sold internationally. Meg has worked internationally for backpacking brands such as Banana Bungalows in the USA, however, she calls Melbourne her home.
