Manuel Bollmann

Manuel Bollmann

Programme Development Manager
Fair Trade Tourism, South Africa

Manuel Bollmann has been working in volunteering contexts for over ten years, after his initial one-year stint in a South African orphanage, where as he stresses, he was technically not volunteering to work. Manuel went to University in Cologne, Germany and holds an MA in Cultural Anthropology and History.

He started his career in Bonn as an intern at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), supporting the role out of the country’s biggest government funded volunteering programme in history.

He then worked 5 years as an advisor on responsible tourism for GIZ, Germany’s main government-owned aid-agency. Since last year, Manuel has been seconded by GIZ to support Fair Trade Tourism here in South Africa, where he now lives with his wife and (soon) two daughters.
