Digital Nomads: From the margins to the mainstream?
Wednesday, 7 October – 08:30-09:00 (EDT), 14:30-15:00 (CET), 23:30-00:00 (AEDT)
A few years ago, Pieter Levels forecast that there would be one billion digital nomads by 2035. At the time it seemed preposterous – now it looks prescient. As a result of COVID-19 millions are working remotely, and many will never go back to the office, so the question many are asking is why work from home, when you could work from anywhere? Barbados, Estonia and other destinations are asking the same question and facilitating the digital nomad with special visas, hoping to cash in on the growth in location–independent travel. This session draws on WYSE Travel Confederation’s research and other sources to examine the rise of the digital nomad and how the youth travel community can engage.
