What to do and see while in Lisbon

Oct 8, 2019

Offering amazing cuisine, ornate architecture and stunning views (worth climbing the infamous hills for) Lisbon is a cultural hub buzzing with life. Discover our ‘essential to do’s’ during your time at WYSTC.

Discover local cuisine and more at Time Out Market Lisbon

Step into the hub that has incorporated the best food stalls, shops and bars, hand-picked by Lisbon’s city experts since 2014. Continue to build your network over a Ginjinha while soaking in live performances and grabbing a bite to eat from the market that boasts cuisine from the local area and beyond. Don’t forget to pick up some tinned Sardinhas for the trip back home.

Trek the streets of ‘Old Lisbon’

Discover the charming area of Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest area which has been inhabited since the 5th century. Home to small businesses that sell local crafts and a host of traditional cafés to stock up on your final Pastel de natas before heading home. Alfama boasts quaint, narrow streets and steep hills, save your legs by getting on Tram 28 (the oldest tramline in Lisbon) to take you to the top of Alfama and soak up the atmosphere and architecture of the area as you make your way back down.

Spend some time on the coast

Located only 50 minutes from Atlis Grand Hotel is the small coastal town of Belém, home to a range of UNESCO world heritage monuments and Lisbon’s maritime heritage. Spend a morning wondering around the captivating Mosteiro dos Jerónimos before walking up the Torro de Belém to take in breath taking views of the coast. No trip to Belém is complete without picking up a Pastel de nata (traditional Portuguese custard tart) from the oldest bakery in Belém, Pastéis de Belém.
