Montréal has been selected as the best student city in the world. The city climbed six spots in the QS annual ranking of Best Student Cities. This year QS examined 100 cities, up from 75 cities in 2016. The organisation said Montréal performed well across the six categories assessed. Those categories are university rankings, student mix, desirability, employer activity, affordability and a new addition to this year’s list – student view, which is based on a survey of students and recent graduates around the world.

Montréal is home to several of Canada‘s highest-ranking institutions, including McGill University (currently ranked 30th in the world and 1st in Canada) and the Université de Montréal (126th in the world, 5th in Canada). In the Student View assessment, Montréal was listed fifth overall, with a particularly strong rating for arts and culture, as well as for its friendliness, diversity and affordability. That’s not surprising as Montréal is considered the cultural capital of Canada and renowned for its diverse makeup, as well as its liveliness, creative industry, cafe culture, and artists. The city is a regular contender in lists of the world’s best places to live.
