Rebel cities and emerging developments in the sharing economy

Thursday, 22 September | 9:40-10:00

Greg Richards

WYSE Travel Confederation

Airbnb, Couchsurfing, Uber and other popular brands of the sharing economy have been successfully building relationships with consumers in their attempts to fulfil demand for ‘local’ experiences while travelling. So far, these leading enterprises of the sharing economy have had varied impact on the under 30 travel market.

During this session Professor Greg Richards will discuss some of the supposed benefits of the sharing economy for travellers and local communities, what some cities are doing about the sharing economy, and identify potential opportunities and threats that new developments pose for youth travel, as well as tourism more broadly.
