Thailand top travel destination for gappers
Thailand has once again been named one of the best places in the world to enjoy a gap year adventure.
The south-east Asian nation has been named as the world’s Best Tourist Country by Swedish publication Travel News for the eighth year in a row, beating the likes of Australia, South Africa and Italy.
According to the publication, Thailand’s attraction lies not just in its sun and sand, but also in its vibrant culture and friendly people, with this combination helping to attract thousands of gap year travellers and holidaymakers every year.
Welcoming the accolade, Thailand’s ambassador to Sweden, Thanarat Thanaputt noted that visitors to the country are able to benefit from excellent value for money, as well as great variety, the Thai News Agency reported.
Meanwhile, the Gainesville Sun reported that the University of Florida’s medical department is launching a new drive to encourage students to engage in voluntary work in Thailand so as to help local communities care for children orphaned by the tsunami.
